Sales professionals spend years learning product knowledge, objection handling, presentations, and negotiation techniques. Those are all valuable skills. However, one of the biggest mistakes made in sales happens in the final moments of a conversation. The customer has already agreed, the concerns have been addressed, and the buying signals are obvious… yet the salesperson keeps talking.

Unfortunately, many sales are lost not because the salesperson failed to make the case, but because they continued making it long after the customer was ready to buy.

There is an old saying in sales: “The first person who talks after the close usually loses.” While that’s not always literally true, there is a lot of wisdom behind it.

When a prospect says, “That sounds good,” “I think this will work,” or “Let’s move forward,” your job shifts immediately. You are no longer selling—you are helping them buy. Every additional feature you introduce, every unnecessary story you tell, or every new objection you accidentally create gives the customer another opportunity to second-guess a decision they had already made.

Think of it like landing an airplane. The hard work is already done. The runway is clear. The last thing you want to do is pull back on the controls and start circling the airport again.

Great salespeople recognize buying signals. They listen carefully, answer the question that was asked, and confidently move toward the close. They don’t feel the need to fill every moment of silence. In fact, they embrace silence because silence often means the customer is thinking, processing, and making a decision.

Many salespeople become uncomfortable with quiet moments and instinctively begin talking again. Ironically, that’s when they start introducing new pricing concerns, technical details, or “one more thing” comments that can derail the entire opportunity.

Confidence doesn’t always sound like talking. Often, confidence sounds like patience.

Once you’ve earned the customer’s trust, answered their questions, and presented a solution that meets their needs, ask for the business. Then stop talking.

Let the customer respond.

The best closers understand that the goal isn’t to deliver the longest presentation or prove they know the most. The goal is to help the customer make a confident decision.

Remember, people don’t buy because you talked the longest. They buy because you listened, solved a problem, earned their trust, and knew exactly when to stop talking.

We kicked off the fun with happy hour and dinner at the Marriott Hotel to give everyone the chance to meet one another and network.

On Wednesday morning, attendees arrived at the Lone Star Tower at Texas Motor Speedway and were greeted with a surprise. David Starr and Team Texas arranged for every attendee to be picked up in the ConectUS Stretch NASCAR and be transported to the Media Center for breakfast and breakout meetings.

Verizon executives and event sponsors all had the chance to lead speaking engagements about their solutions or different subjects within the technology industry, and after that, attendees ate lunch before heading over to the NASCAR Garage for the Technology Fair and instructions from Team Texas about driving their NASCARs.

NASCAR rides and drives along with Stretch NASCAR rides lasted for the next few hours, and every attendee got the chance to ride or drive in a real NASCAR at speeds of up to 150 miles per hour. Everyone had an outstanding time due to the hospitality and seamlessness of Team Texas.

However, the drives and rides around the track weren’t even the end of our event.

After driving NASCARs all afternoon, our partners ended the evening with dinner catered by Hard Eight BBQ in our penthouse at Lonestar Tower. This gave everyone a few hours at the end of the night to network with Verizon executives and business owners one final time before heading home, and this was the perfect ending to an outstanding two days in Fort Worth.

Rev-Up Your Revenue 2025 was a major success, and we can’t wait to host more events like this in the future. While ConectUS is eager for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, we will also be participating in Fort Cavazos’ recruiting event at Texas Motor Speedway on Thursday. During this event, high schoolers from across the Dallas-Fort Worth area will learn about the professional racing industry, tour interactive exhibits, attend presentations from professionals in the US Army, and much more.
This event is designed for the US Army to talk with students about potentially joining, and the organizers have planned this day to be as enjoyable as possible. The Army is planning to land a Chinook helicopter there, plus they are bringing other military vehicles.

Team Texas Racing School is also joining in on the fun. Team Texas is bringing the ConectUS Car, and our Noah will be there to capture the excitement while also teaching anyone who may be interested in hearing about Cell Tower Technology. Our partnership with Team Texas continues to thrive, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.

On Sunday night, Saint Bartholomew of Columbus, Indiana, hosted their annual fundraiser for their Friends of Haiti program. This year, the fundraiser was a March Madness Trivia Night to raise money for the Friends of Haiti’s ALFA Literacy program.

This program was created to help adults in Haiti learn to read and write, and this was the second year in a row that ConectUS sponsored Saint Bartholomew’s annual fundraiser. We were extremely excited to be on board this year as a Slam Dunk Sponsor, and ConectUS always likes getting involved with events that help those in need. By helping these adults, they will be able to help teach their children these valuable literacy skills while becoming more independent themselves.

This year, the event had a great turnout featuring prizes, trivia, and plenty of food and drinks. The March Madness theme was a hit after a Mardi Gras theme last year, and teams went all out with their uniforms for their teams. The silent auction was also a hit, as the items auctioned included gift baskets, gift cards, lottery tickets, and much more.

“We are so excited we had the opportunity to sponsor this event again this year,” ConectUS Wireless President and General Manager John Scully said. “We were happy to support this cause and we’re looking forward to seeing the impact that Saint Bartholomew continues to make in Haiti.”

Saint Bartholomew’s dedication to helping Haiti and everyone who lives there isn’t going unnoticed, and they work hard year-round to prepare for the various trips their team takes there. This is just the start for Saint Bartholomew, and we’re excited to be a part of their journey to help Haiti rise up.
