In this episode of The Horn Presents Road to the Race, J.J. Yeley tells Neil Farquharson about his recent successes during the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series. Including a 7th place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway in July. J.J. is currently driving the #15 Mustang that is serviced by Rick Ware Racing. Rick Ware Racing recently moved from Mooresville, NC to a shop in Concord, North Carolina. And that shop is on the campus of RFK Racing, with which the team began an alliance in 2023.

In this episode, J.J. gives commentaries to video footage of a crash he had in Pocono recently and compares it to a spectacular spin-out he had in the ConectUS car last October. He jokingly reminds Neil of the broadcast television coverage that spin received – and the fantastic exposure it gave the ConectUS Wireless logo.

J.J. continues by updating us on the modifications that will soon be made to the car that will give him an extra ten or so brake horsepower. J.J. is looking forward to October 15 when he will again drive the #15 ConectUS car at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Yeley started racing in the late 1990s and won the USAC National Sprint Car Series Rookie of the Year in 1997. He raced in these types of races for a few years and was quickly ready to move up into NASCAR.

Just like most drivers starting out, Yeley raced in the Craftsman Truck Series and the NASCAR Xfinity Series. In these two series combined, Yeley has 50 top-ten finishes and 15 top-five finishes. He quickly made his presence felt in the Xfinity Series as he had 13 top-five finishes in his first three years. Yeley was racing in the Cup Series by 2004, showing dominance in the early stages of his NASCAR career.

Once in the Cup Series, Yeley raced in six races during his first two years before racing in 89 races combined over the next three years. In these three years, he finished in the top ten seven times and in the top five twice.

We have a great partnership with Yeley, and we hope to continue this far into the future. The ConectUS Racing team will be with Yeley at the South Point 400 in Las Vegas on October 15. Yeley is having a great 2023 season and we are excited about the future of this partnership. After J.J.’s outstanding effort at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last year, ConectUS asked if we could sponsor him again this October 15th. And… he said YES!!

J.J. is having a great year. Although he has never won a Cup Series race, he’s described by SpeedSport as “NASCAR’s Underrated Mainstay.” That is, he’s very dependable. On a limited budget, he consistently performs at the top of the third quartile.

We were so impressed with him last October. If you did not see last year’s Cup Series race, search on YouTube for “J. J. Yeley at Las Vegas Motor Speedway: Post-Race Interview.” It was awesome. J.J.’s rear left tire deflated and disintegrated on Turn 3, putting him into a spectacular spin that was replayed several times on national television. Yet J.J. controlled the car superbly and made it back to the pits. While other drivers retired from the race, J.J. went on to finish the race with great aplomb.

In his over 20 years of professional racing, J.J. has driven in many disparate types of competition. With temperatures inside stockcars running as high as 130 degrees, J.J. says that he has to remain very fit, and well-hydrated. Also, he makes sure he sleeps well so that he can maintain the high level of concentration required for NASCAR races which usually run three to four hours.

On Sunday, October 15, J.J. will again be driving the number 15 Ford Mustang, serviced by Rick Ware Racing, based in Concord, North Carolina. In the photo, you can see the car being prepared for the race. This year the race will be broadcast on NBC at 2:30 ET. So, mark your calendars.
